From what we can tell from the screenshots provided my Reddit users, the scam is masked as some sort of update for the wallet, with “Major Bug Fixes” cited as the reasoning. Anyway, and again this is not yet verified (and we have not yet received any correspondence from MultiBit confirming or denying the authenticity of the mail), while uncertainty remains, we recommend you avoid
the update at all costs until this are clearer.
Some of you will remember that last year, MultiBit, marketed on its website as a secure, lightweight, international Bitcoin wallet for Windows, MacOS and Linux, had some trouble when a that he/she could not send bitcoins as expected. While this latest issue looks to be no fault of MultiBit’s directly – phishing scams are 3rd party – I bet the company doesnt feel it needs the press!
